Dear colleagues,
Last year, the cryo-EM community’s combined efforts led to the important
milestone of 10,000 released EMDB entries and we are well on our way to
releasing the 20,000th entry already in 2022. The rapid growth in the number
and complexity of cryo-EM depositions brings to the fore many questions
regarding data representation, validation and integration. To deal effectively
with these issues, EMBL-EBI have created an “EMDB Resource Manager” position.
This unique post is ideally suited for an ambitious mid-career scientist who:
– Wants to make an impact on the way the cryo-EM community archives, validates
and disseminates its data;
– Has ample experience with, and a good practical and theoretical understanding
of cryo-EM/ET;
– Has experience carrying out -and ideally leading- scientific software
development.
The resource manager will lead all activities surrounding the EMDB archive
(which is now officially a part of the wwPDB organisation), leading a small
team (currently 7 staff members) at EMBL-EBI (Hinxton, UK; relocation will be
necessary in due course). These activities include archival, curation,
integration, visualisation, validation and dissemination of cryo-EM data,
weekly production processes, planning, coordinating and working with our wwPDB
partners, and outreach, training and public engagement.
