Dear all,

I would like to advertise two postdoctoral positions that are currently available in my lab at the Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology, University of Edinburgh, UK (https://www.wcb.ed.ac.uk/research/owen-davies).
These positions will study the structure and assembly of the synaptonemal complex, a supramolecular protein assembly that synapses chromosomes and facilitates recombination during meiosis.

One position is in structural biology (X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM and tomography, biophysics) and would be suitable for someone with experience in this area. The other position is cellular structural biology (mammalian cell culture,
cryo-EM and tomography, super-resolution imaging, CLEM, FIB-SEM), and would be suitable for a cell biologist with a background and/or interest in structural analysis.

The positions are for 4 years initially, with the potential to extend, and would be suitable for postdocs who would like to transition towards independence during the post (part of the work would be theirs to develop into the foundations
for their future lab).

The posts are funded by a Wellcome Senior Research Fellowship, and will be hosted in a well-equipped and well-funded lab, which includes the following:

Extensive biochemical equipment (including numerous Akta Pure systems, SEC-MALS etc)

Protein production and characterisation facility (https://www.ed.ac.uk/biology/research/facilities/edinburgh-protein-production-facility-eppf)

Imaging facility (https://coil.bio.ed.ac.uk/)

In-house TEM, SEM and cryo-EM facility (https://www.ed.ac.uk/biology/research/facilities/electron-microscopy)

Regular time on macromolecular crystallography and SAXS synchrotron beamlines at Diamond Light Source (https://www.diamond.ac.uk)

Regular cryo-EM time at Diamond Light Source (https://www.diamond.ac.uk) and at the Scottish Centre for Macromolecular Imaging (https://www.gla.ac.uk/researchinstitutes/iii/cvr/facilities/scmi/)
