Senior Scientist – Structural Biology and Data Science (m/w/d)

At smartbax, we aim to introduce the next generation of antibiotics. We develop novel antibacterial

compounds with extraordinary potency against multi-drug resistant bacteria and hijack bacterial pathways

that no other drug has touched before. As a start-up in Munich’s vibrant biotech scene, we offer an

We are looking for a Senior Scientist (PhD) with expertise in structural biology and data science, full-time,

starting immediately, to join our growing team.

Your tasks:

 Structure-guided optimisation of small molecule antibiotic candidates through both in silico and

experimental analyses

 Docking and molecular modelling studies to inform medicinal chemistry decision making

 Co-crystallization experiments with test compounds and target enzymes

 Coordination with CROs

 Implementation of AI and machine learning approaches for data analysis, compound design and

property prediction

 Data evaluation, visualisation and presentation towards the team, shareholders and investors

 Creative and critical thinking in solving scientific problems

Your profile:

 PhD in structural biology, computational chemistry or related subjects

 Experience in working with proteins and analysing small molecule-protein interactions

 Strong computational and programming skills, including docking, molecular dynamics, machine

learning and AI

 Additional expertise in handling S2 bacteria is considered a plus

 Self-organised, enjoys working in small teams

 Creative, fast-thinking and decisive mind who likes tackling challenges

 Proficient in written and spoken English; German skills are a plus
