[ccp4bb] research tech position, Brown University

Dear colleagues,

I have one research assistant position available in my lab at Brown University in Providence. Rhode Island. Please apply using this link, but feel free to email me directly as well for inquiries.

The Deaconescu Laboratory focuses on structural studies by X-ray crystallography, small-angle X-ray scattering and electron microscopy of protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid complexes, particularly those involved in DNA repair and transcriptional regulation. For examples of work in these areas, please see Deaconescu et al., PNAS (2012), Szyk et al, Cell (2014), Szyk et al., NSMB (2012) and Deaconescu et al., TIBS (2013). More information about the lab at: http://biology.brown.edu/faculty/profile.php?id=1379608523.

The desired candidate will be responsible for performing routine lab work including media preparation, the preparation of solutions and stocks, cloning, large-scale protein _expression_, protein purification using Akta/NGC chromatographic systems, protein characterization using functional and biophysical methods (EMSAs, activity assays, circular dichroism), and protein crystallization. Additional responsibilities include performing general lab administration, which includes the organization and maintenance of lab databases and stocks, ordering, data entry and other duties as assigned. Applicant should be highly motivated with thorough, methodological and accurate work habits. The ideal candidate has a strong ability to multi-task, has good communication skills, and the ability to work as a part of a team, as well as independently.

Biological laboratory experience is required. Previous experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, vector construction, nucleic acid extraction), protein _expression_, biochemistry (protein purification, enzyme assays, immunoblotting)  are  required. Knowledge of crystallization is desirable, but not required, and training can be provided. Position is available immediately.
