[ccp4bb] Tenure track position-Biochemistry

I am posting this here because it may be an excellent opportunity for a structural biochemist who is interested in both teaching and research at a selective liberal arts college that is well-equipped for protein crystallography. Our program in Chemistry and BIochemistry features a research-rich curriculum which culminates in a full-year research project supervised by a faculty member. In addition to the usual stuff for protein overexpression and purification, we have have a 4-channel DNA sequencer, a Gryphon dropsetter, Scorpion screenmaker, and our own Oxford Diffraction Gemini R system with which we routinely collect protein diffraction data. Conveniently, Colgate is only 90 minutes away from CHESS as well.

Colgate University seeks to fill an assistant professor position in the area of biochemistry beginning in Fall 2017. PhD required. The duties include teaching general chemistry and the appropriate upper-level biochemistry courses and associated laboratories, as well as directing an active undergraduate research program. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in university-wide programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The Department offers strong BA programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry and has excellent facilities for biochemistry research, including a dual beam x-ray diffractometer. One year of research is required of all senior majors. Student participation in faculty research programs is strongly encouraged and supported, during both the academic year and summer. New faculty members receive generous start-up support, and student stipends for summer research are available. Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities. Candidates should describe in their application materials their approach to teaching, scholarship, and/or outreach in a diverse and inclusive educational environment. Evaluation of the applications will begin October 14 and will continue until the position is filled. For more information about the department, please browse our web site at http://departments.colgate.edu/chemistry. Colgate University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Developing and sustaining a diverse faculty, staff, and student body further the University’s educational mission. Colgate is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college in the beautiful Chenango Valley of central New York. To apply, candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a description of teaching and research interests, and three letters of recommendation through https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7608.
